In the heart of one of London’s most energetic neighbourhoods, Mildreds Covent Garden offers a private dining option that combines heritage, colour and plant-based cooking. Mildreds has been redefining vegetarian and now fully vegan dining since 1988, when founder Jane Muir opened the original Soho site. Decades later, the ethos remains clear: taste-led, internationally inspired food served with warmth and personality - just 100% plant-based.
Covent Garden is a natural setting for group gatherings. With theatres, galleries and late-night bars on the doorstep, it’s a location that suits pre-show dinners, birthday celebrations or work events that spill into the evening. Downstairs at Mildreds, the basement space provides a stylish retreat from the bustle above. For smaller occasions, Jane’s Table seats up to 10 guests around marble tabletops in a bold, artistic setting. Named after Jane Muir, the space nods to Mildreds’ beginnings while feeling firmly contemporary. Orange-toned walls, fashionable panelling, graphic artwork and glamorous wall lights create a room that feels lively yet intimate, softened by palm plants and flexible seating.
For larger events, the entire basement can be hired exclusively, accommodating up to 50 guests seated. It works equally well for milestone dinners, team celebrations or private parties where atmosphere matters as much as the menu. Food is designed for sharing and variety. Starters such as harissa patatas bravas with triple-cooked spiced potatoes and aioli, or guacamole verde with spinach, pea and avocado, set a relaxed tone. Bowls include artichoke Caesar salad with crispy kale and Italian cheez, or kimchi bokkeumbap with organic salt and pepper tofu and nori. Burgers range from beetroot carrot vada layered with chutneys to the smoky mushroom prime patty with glazed mushrooms and salsa verde. Larger plates like shawarma kebab with glazed mushroom skewers and baharat salsa verde bring depth and colour to the table.
As for drinks, cocktails such as the mandarin rumtini or dark chocolate old fashioned sit alongside a varied wine list and beers including Sandford Devon Red cider and Lucky Saint unfiltered lager. Here, there's something for everyone - no matter how you like to whet your whistle.
