The SquareMeal stars system

As you may have noticed (we’re sure you’re tracking SquareMeal’s every move), our star system is a little different to most. But what does it all mean? Allow us to explain, as we reveal all of our star-rated restaurants.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay

We award stars to our favourite restaurants on the basis of food, ambience, service and value. If a restaurant doesn’t have a star, it may still be worth a visit but you’ll need to read our review for a full verdict. One and two stars are awarded to good and very good restaurants within a given area (for example, Soho or Bloomsbury). Three stars are given to excellent restaurants that are well worth a trip across London: venues that we find ourselves repeatedly recommending as must-visits. Finally, the highest recognition we give is four stars, awarded to the capital’s elite tier of outstanding restaurants that can compete with the best in the world.

Look out for our one-star restaurants as you move around the website; our highest rated restaurants are listed here:

?? Very good: stand-out in area

??? Excellent: well worth travelling for

???? Outstanding: as good as it gets
