Located in Twickenham, on the edge of Richmond upon Thames, York House sits within one of southwest London’s most appealing stretches of riverside, where green spaces, historic streets and independent cafés set a relaxed, almost village-like tone. It’s the ideal setting for a celebration – whether it be a birthday, anniversary or corporate together - immediately putting guests at ease, whatever the occasion.
The area is well connected, making it practical as well as picturesque. Twickenham station offers regular services into central London, while Richmond’s transport links (including Underground, Overground and National Rail) place the venue within straightforward reach for guests travelling from across the city or further afield. For those arriving by car, the surrounding roads are easy to navigate compared with more central locations, adding to its appeal as a meeting point.
York House itself provides a range of flexible spaces, all located on the ground floor with disabled access, allowing events to be shaped around different group sizes and formats. The Terrace Room opens directly onto the gardens and works well for smaller receptions or daytime gatherings, while the Salon offers a more formal setting overlooking the front of the house. At the rear, the Winter Garden benefits from its original glass-dome roof and garden views, creating a light-filled space suited to both seated meals and evening events.
For larger occasions, rooms such as the Hyde Room and the Clarendon Hall offer generous capacity and adaptability. The Clarendon Hall, in particular, can host sizeable banquets or drinks receptions and is equipped with optional PA and stage lighting, making it suitable for presentations, performances or dancing later in the evening. Rooms can be hired individually or combined, allowing events to move smoothly from one moment to the next.
Practicalities are handled with a light touch. Tables and chairs are provided and arranged as required, while catering can be selected from an approved list or brought in independently with prior agreement. Hosts may also supply alcohol for guests (and, without a corkage fee!), with the option to hire a bar if needed.
With its riverside gardens, historic architecture and well-connected location, York House offers a venue that feels removed from the rush of central London while remaining easy to reach – a rare feat!
