About Newcastle Civic Centre

Newcastle Civic Centre is one of the city’s most distinctive and prestigious venues to hire for events, parties and large-scale celebrations, blending rich civic history with striking modernist architecture. Opened in 1968 by King Olav V of Norway and designed by city architect George Kenyon, the building is a Grade II listed masterpiece, complete with its iconic sea-horse-topped tower and a dramatic bronze casting of the River God Tyne guarding the entrance. From the moment guests step inside, the tone is set for a remarkable occasion.

Located in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the Civic Centre is exceptionally convenient for guests, benefitting from strong transport links and a central position within the city. Its grandeur makes it ideal for events that require a sense of ceremony from black-tie dinners and milestone parties to conferences, community celebrations and corporate receptions. With spaces accommodating everything from intimate gatherings of 10 to landmark events exceeding 600 attendees, the venue offers remarkable flexibility.

The Banqueting Hall is the star attraction for large events, a breathtaking space that reimagines the atmosphere of a baronial hall with modern finesse. Capable of seating up to 600 guests, it combines awe-inspiring scale with immersive ambience thanks to medieval-style inscribed walls and elegant lighting. Whether hosting an awards ceremony, gala dinner or festive celebration, the hall delivers the kind of impact guests remember long after the night ends.

For events that require gravitas, the Council Chamber, home to official Newcastle council meetings since 1968, brings heritage, prestige and state-of-the-art technology. Its tiered seating and refined atmosphere make it an excellent choice for presentations, panel discussions or formal gatherings of up to 180 guests.

Smaller rooms such as the Pandon Room offer versatility for mid-sized celebrations, business meetings, private lunches or pre-event receptions, with capacities ranging from 20 to 120 people. Each room includes modern AV facilities such as HDMI and USB inputs and screens, ensuring smooth integration for speeches, slideshows or entertainment.

Testimonials for Newcastle Civic Centre

Weekend ConferenceMARCH, 2026

Safely back home after our weekend workshops with you in the Banqueting Hall.  Just to say how absolutely wonderful you and all the team were throughout. I have run workshops in many, many places over the years and you and your team were by far the most helpful, flexible and all round brilliant in everyway. What a luxury to have ice cold water topped up throughout the day and everyone loved the food. Delicious and plentiful.  And you were so great with the furniture and tech too. All in such stunning surroundings!  If there were Oscars in the event world, you and your team would have an armful of statuettes!  Huge thanks to you all and see you in a couple of weeks!

Right to Food Commission MeetingFEBRUARY, 2026

"I just wanted to send a quick note to thank your team - Kristina, Mark and Ryan in particular - for going above and beyond on helping me rescue the meeting I had a small part in organising today.  There have been a number of moments when your team would have been well within their rights to just crack on with the basic guidance they had been given and get on with other things.  Instead they spotted issues that didn't look right and proactively reached out to ask questions and get clarification.  Even half an hour before the event was due to start, Kristina noticed that the room set up didn't look right and stepped up to fix it.  How Mark and his team managed to rig up 30 (THIRTY!!) microphones with about ten minutes notice is beyond me.  We had Labour MPs and other very senior people in attendance, and without your team's brilliant work we as a council would have looked very daft indeed.  The ongoing responsiveness, calmness and always polite and friendly accommodation that your team provides is massively impressive.  Thank you very much!"

International Women's Day CeremonyJANUARY, 2026

"Sean/Tia, I wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you for all your hard work and support in making our International Women’s Day 2025 event a success. The planning for this event was fraught at times and your guidance, support and unflappable demeanour was hugely appreciated. Thanks to your efforts, we were able to bring together the incredible women of Newcastle and celebrate their achievements. You are a phenomenal team and a real asset to the Council. It was great to have worked with you to deliver this event" (Ceremony for 350 guests)

Winn Group Awards NightJANUARY, 2026

"Thank you to you and the team for delivering a fantastic setting and service for our Winn Group Awards Night. The food was well received, and the team worked hard to ensure a brilliant night. The team was fantastic, as always, in the build up to the event, and the wider team did a great job under pressure to cater for a large number of people. Thanks for the efforts, they are very much appreciated, and we’d recommend you to anyone asking for a venue in the future" (3 course meal for 345 guests)

Chance for Life ConferenceJANUARY, 2026

"Thanks again to you and all the team for your support throughout the planning and execution of our conference. You took a lot of pressure off us and helped to make the day very special. In fact, I was recommending you that evening at the drinks do some of us went on to, to a contact who mentioned he might be looking for a Newcastle venue for a conference next year!" (1 day conference with 150 guests)
