Houchins is located in Colchester's Coggeshall, and is a unique, weddings-first events venue with oodles of charm. But, just because many people choose to get married at Houchins, doesn’t mean that you can’t book this stunning venue for your upcoming event. In fact, could there be a better place to host your upcoming birthday party, annual family gathering or work away day than somewhere that’s equipped to handle hundreds of guests, on the most important day of two people’s lives? We think not!
Houchins has been in the current owner, Adam Dixon-Smith, family since 1954, when his grandfather bought the estate. Adam himself was raised at Houchins, and after 18 years of the house being home to a succession of tenants, he decided to refurbish the farmhouse and convert the grain store into a purpose built wedding venue.
Your guests will reach Houchins within just half a mile of turning off the A120, between Colchester and Braintree. The convenient location makes Houchins a great venue choice for those who are travelling from London and Cambridge, although it's easily accessible to the rest of the country. Houchins has capacity for up to 120 guests in a theatre style, or 140 when booking at table briefings. There are three breakout zones for you to use throughout the day – perfect for when you need a little chill out time or to brainstorm in groups.
If you need a smaller venue for your event, but still want to enjoy the beauty and countryside feel that Houchins offers, look at booking The House. The House has seven bedrooms, meaning that your guests can stay overnight and make the fun last a little longer, and the boardroom (which doubles up as a dining room) can accommodate up to 12 people.
