Christmas at Two Fat Ladies at The Buttery has an appropriately atmospheric and celebratory feel. Established in 1870 and regarded as a Glasgow institution, the historic restaurant is filled with dark wood, exposed brick, botanical wallpaper and soft lighting, creating a cosy backdrop for festive dinners with friends, family or colleagues.
Two private spaces offer different options for Christmas celebrations. Downstairs, The Belles can be hired exclusively for up to 35 diners, making it well suited to larger family gatherings and company Christmas dinners. For something more intimate, The Snug seats up to eight guests around the table. Both have the restaurant’s traditional character, with wood panelling, crisp white tablecloths and a warm, low-lit atmosphere.
Christmas dining can take the form of a set menu or a wider a la carte selection, with head chef Craig Brown showcasing seasonal Scottish produce. The festive set menu might begin with delicacies such as smoked salmon and horseradish cream, glazed pork belly with braised red cabbage and black pudding, or goat’s cheese and honey panna cotta. Mains range from woodland pigeon and lobster glazed coley to a traditional turkey ballotine with sage stuffing, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and turkey jus.
A la carte choices add dishes such as scallops, Cullen skink, wild Highland venison and Scotch beef fillet. For groups keen to finish on a suitably celebratory note, The Buttery’s Grand Dessert brings together a selection of puddings on one sharing platter, which might include creme brulee, clootie dumpling, chocolate Charlotte, ice cream, chestnut parfait and apple, raisin and blackberry strudel. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free requirements can also be accommodated.
The well-stocked bar offers local and international wines, classic and signature cocktails and an extensive whisky selection, alongside alcohol-free cocktails and soft drinks. With dedicated senior team members helping coordinate events, Christmas gatherings here can be tailored around the size and style of the celebration.
