The
Cabinet Office has announced it will match every £1 donation to StreetSmart from participating restaurants throughout December, giving an extra boost to the homeless charity’s 2012 campaign.
Each year, in November and December, more than 500 restaurants across the UK – including Nobu, Dinner by Heston, Pollen Street Social, Murano
and Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley in London – add £1 to diners’ bills, money that goes
straight to homeless charities local to the area in which it was donated.
The Cabinet Office is the latest backer to support StreetSmart this year. In November, Square Meal announced it would match donations made to the
charity by diners booking a table via SquareMeal.co.uk during the 2012 campaign. Thanks to the Cabinet Office, this means that diners booking a table through SquareMeal.co.uk are ensuring their
£1 donation is tripled before it reaches StreetSmart.
‘The Government is determined to do its bit to help support the vulnerable,’ said Nick Hurd MP, Minister for Civil Society.
In 2011, StreetSmart raised £760,000; the help pledged by the Cabinet Office and Square Meal should help the
charity surpass the record it set last year.
