Torquay's rich history was originally centred around the industries of fishing and agriculture, before developing into a seaside resort. You'll find plenty of charming Victorian architecture throughout the town, and if you’re interested in its history, be sure to visit Kent’s Cavern, a prehistoric cave touted to be one of the most significant Stone Age sites in the country.

There are plenty of activities on offer in Torquay, perfect for a family getaway or a long weekend away from the city. Take a stroll along the palm-lined promenade and the princess pier built in 1890 to soak in the stunning sea views. Or, gaze over this pastel-dotted town from a boat, with plenty of boat trips available to take you around the bay. There are also fishing trips on offer if you fancy trying your luck.

Visiting in October? Be sure to check out the England Seafood Feast Festival that takes place in Torquay to try the specialities of the area. Literature aficionados will be pleased to hear this town was once home to Agatha Christie and there is a mile-long walk through the town that takes you to key sites related to her life and works. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to kick back and relax, head to one of the many sandy beaches and take a dip in the turquoise waters.
