SquareMeal Review of Disrepute

Silver Award

As The Pinstripe Club, these premises gained notoriety in the 1960s, when they were the favoured tryst rendezvous for protagonists in the Profumo Affair. Fast-forward half a century and the site is Disrepute (‘DRP’ to its intimates) – a late-night basement club that admits non-members (with table reservations) until 11pm. The long tunnel-shaped space with its conspiratorial vaults (good for private shenanigans) has been stylishly refurbished, its sleek plush detailing also harking back to the early 1960s. Disrepute’s classy cocktails are created to a soundtrack of pre-Beatles easy listening and cool Blue Note jazz: try Lime House Royal (rum, lime, honey and carbonated Sauternes), Queen’s Cup (Marylebone gin, Riesling, fino sherry, Lillet blanc and elderflower) or a refined sparkler made with English fizz, Babycham reduction and El Gobernador pisco. Despite its disreputable past, DRP deserves a new ‘rep’ as one of Soho’s more sophisticated spots.
