About

Younger sibling to the already well-established Crispin in Spitalfields, Bar Crispin is the second site from co-owners Dominic Hamdy and Oliver Hiam, where it brings its modern British sharing plates and natural, low-intervention wines to Kingly Street.

The food menu centres around seasonal produce, with an ingredient-led approach adopted by French-born head chef Fabien Spagnolo. Fabien has spent time working in some of London’s top restaurants, including Frenchie, Pollen Street Social, The Corner Room and Casa Fofo. For example, you might expect to dine on the likes of a fried beef sando with dill and pickled cucumber, oyster mushrooms with Marmite butter, egg yolk and lovage, and grilled seabream with preserved tomato emulsion with tarragon. All Fabien’s dishes highlight the best of the season's produce and change regularly according to what’s best.

A combination of a snug central bar, a downstairs private dining space and a terrace means there’s room for 42 guests to dine and drink here. The 150-strong wine list has been curated by in-house sommelier Alex Price whose CV boasts time at Beaverbrook as well as a position at exclusive private members club, Annabel’s. Price has put the focus here on old world and indigenous grape varieties as well as indie producers and natural wines. If you’re a wine novice the team will gladly tutor you by way of monthly events such as wine tastings or food and drinks pairing experiences.

At the centre of the space there is an impressive zinc bar and hand-painted light fittings. Its design is spearheaded by Jermaine Gallacher Studio, whose portfolio includes his work on the popular Lane Street Wine Bar. No element here has been left to chance, with the ambiance taken care of thanks to playlists curated by DJs Peaches, Eliza Rose and Flo Dill.

Alex Price

Head of Wine

Born in Northumberland, Alex spent her early life in pursuit of the Art world, attending Manchester University to complete a degree in History of Art. However, a growing side passion for wine led her to the historic Annabel's cellar, where she joined the buying team for the Birley clubs and Caprice Holdings. Following Annabel's, she moved to Burgundy specialist Domaine Direct to do a combined role of events and private client sales.

In 2019 she started a new role at Beaverbrook Members Club where she made the move to full time Front of House, serving as Sommelier and Assistant Manager of the Garden House, alongside hosting the occasional wine tasting event at the AllBright members club. Post lockdown, she helped open Bar Crispin as Restaurant Manager and Head Sommelier, writing the extensive list of around 150 natural wines. She now oversees the wine department for the Crispin Group as Head of Wine.

Fabien Spagnolo

Head chef

Born in Nimes, France; Fabien Spagnolo has a CV spanning many of London's top restaurants. Working in kitchens such as Frenchie, Pollen St Social, The Corner Room and Casa Fofo, Fabien joined the team at Bar Crispin as Head Chef in 2021 with a wealth of enviable experience.

The ethos of seasonality and sustainability is at the core of the Crispin Group and is central to the food Fabien lovingly creates. He believes cultures and environments can be defined by the food we produce and eat, and by creating experiences that respect and celebrate each ingredient we can be inspired to connect with each other and the environment in which we live.

Fabien’s menu at Bar Crispin reflects the ethos of Crispin Group and combined with Alex’s wine list encompasses a strong commitment to sustainability and locally sourced produce, whilst championing the stories behind the people who created them.
