Tucked in among East Fife’s string of picturesque fishing villages, the whitewashed Seafood Restaurant ticks all the boxes when it comes to piscophile excellence. Everything appeals, from the setting on the harbour’s edge & the cool grey-floored dining room flooded with natural light to the180-degree views of the Firth of Forth & the Isle of May. The cooking gets it right, too, smartly balancing the simple & the sophisticated. A concise, regularly changing menu might lead off with Kilbrandon oysters, a freshly baked, quivering smoked haddock & leek tart, or peat-smoked salmon with a seasonal celeriac rémoulade, before mains deliver first-rate halibut with crushed potatoes, & juicy monkfish with risotto & basil oil. A little tower of marmalade sponge accompanied by marmalade ice-cream with caramelised oranges on the side sets the seal on proceedings, before coffee with homemade shortbread & biscotti conspire to pin you to the view.
