Myung Ga has enjoyed an admirable run, serving authentic Korean specialities from its prime Soho spot for more than 20 years. However, it is now struggling to keep up with the competition from
younger challengers, and long-time fans have noticed a deterioration in the kitchen’s output and service of late, with regular complaints about ‘rude’, careless staff and the mandatory service
charge; the plainly furnished, ‘noisy and stuffy' dining room has also seen better days. However, there is still fun to be had with classic dishes such as light yet stridently spicy kimchi
pancakes, golden nuggets of Korean sweet-and-sour chicken or emblematic bulgogi (BBQ marinated beef cooked DIY over tabletop hotplates). In a sop to the tourist trade, the menu highlights some of
its more familiar dishes as ‘European favourites'.
