Untroubled by fashion but still in vogue among a phalanx of loyal Wigmore Street customers, Simon Piovesan’s restaurant serves the food of his native Venice and thereabouts. Devotees come for the
comfort of a generously filled bread basket and a roster of reliably cooked dishes served in a cosy dining room with brick arches, urns and Venetian prints. Try deep-fried courgette flowers filled
with salted cod or baby-veal ravioli with porcini cream, followed by a simple plate of beef tagliata with radicchio salad. Friendly staff usually entreat customers to stay for pudding – perhaps the
house tiramisu or hazelnut and vanilla semifreddo with pistachio cream. Otherwise, there are Italian cheeses served with punchy mostarda di frutta. Apart from Champagne, the wines are proudly
Italian – so pick something from Veneto for extra brownie points.
