We love a bit of Strictly Come Dancing, so when we found out that Series 6-winner Karen Hardy now offers teambuilding packages in her West London studio, we had to try them out.
In hindsight, we could have picked a better date than 20 September (the day after a boozy Venues & Events Live post-show dinner) but then they do say it’s good to sweat out a hangover. After a glass of Champagne (aka Dutch courage), a quick warm-up and some stretching, we’re told that we’ll be learning how to jive.Split into two groups, we’re taught the basic moves, before joining up with our partners in a collision of limbs.
The hands-on instructors are quick to correct our first faultering steps and before long, we’re getting the hang of it. Time to celebrate over some canapés and a well-needed break.
Next up, the dreaded dance-off. Each couple takes to the dancefloor in turn, instructed to add a surprise ‘signature move’ to the practiced routine. We’re ‘judged’ by a faux Bruce Forsyth, who declares Millie and Annica the winners for their near-faultless steps. Damien and Heather are nearly disqualified (their ‘lift’ almost knocked down the AV projector) while Russ and Hannah take third place. We’re all put to shame when our instructors take to the floor to show us the dance at the speed it should be performed. Impressive.
Teambuilding packages start at £25pp for groups of between six and 250. More details at squaremeal.co.uk/khs
