Once London’s first purpose-built gymnasium, a £5 million renovation has transformed this Grade-II listed Victorian building into one of the grandest restaurants and events venues in London. With 57 foot of space from floor to ceiling, this one-time gymnasium is a truly magnificent space - the huge laminated timber roof is one of only two of its kind in London, and features period details, including cast iron hooks from the original gym.
Within German Gymnasium there are plenty of options for those looking to host a Christmas party. The ground-floor Grand Cafe is a neatly arranged art deco affair - dimly lit with light marble floors and a vast outdoor terrace that is heated in the winter, so you can enjoy the fresh air without worrying about the cold. At either side of the space, staircases lead you to the more formal mezzanine restaurant, which can be hired on its own for Christmas celebrations, and comes with its own entrance. The mezzanine overlooks the buzz of the Grand Cafe below, and through arched windows, you can even see the Eurostar to Paris. The private dining room accommodates 32 seated guests or 45 for a standing reception or drinks party.
German Gymnasium is also available for exclusive private hire in it's magnificent entirety, on a select number of days. The whole venue can accommodate 250 guests seated for a meal, or up to 500 guests standing, making it perfect for large-scale corporate Christmas parties. Alternatively, you can hire the whole upstairs privately too, for something slightly smaller. As always, get in touch with the events team at the venue to find out which days the venue is available for exclusive hire.
There are a number of festive set menus available for those dining at German Gymnasium over Christmas, set at different price points. Dishes include chopped steak tartare with sourdough melba toast, roast free-range Bronze turkey with festive trimmings, and warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce.
