SquareMeal Review of 28 West
Ideally placed with an open frontage overlooking Canary Wharf waterfront, 28 West blends the allure of a big-city drinking haunt with the meaty attributes of an American-style grill. Steaks and burgers have their say (look for the Cajun-spiced veggie version with black turtle beans), but the menu covers a lot of ground from crab cakes and panko-coated popcorn shrimps to open quesadillas, soft-shell crab salad and smoky specials such as BBQ chicken thighs and pulled pork. Also check out the special ‘bun and bones’ deal (any burger or St Louis ribs with skinny fries and pickled veg). Sunday lunch brings joints of smoked meat (brisket for example), plus all the true-Brit trimmings. Otherwise, play table football in the bar with a bottle of craft beer, a classic cocktail or something from the well-spread wine list.
