A collaboration between Italian design house Missoni & the Rezidor Group, Hotel Missoni thrilled Edinburgh’s fashionistas when it opened in 2009. Foodies also took notice when it rolled out Cucina – a modern Italian restaurant with star chef Giorgio Locatelli pulling some strings behind the scenes. One of Giorgio’s protégés mans the stoves on a daily basis, sending out trademark dishes along the lines of baked scallops with lemon sauce & a carrot & cucumber salad, tagliatelle with pork ragù, or roast saddle of rabbit with grilled endive & fried polenta. To finish, a dessert of blackberries with yoghurt sorbet & foam strikes a seasonal note. The carte isn’t cheap, but lunch & pre-theatre deals offer a more economical way to hang out with the local Ab Fab crowd in bold, chic surroundings.
