Located in the grounds of Kentisbury Grange Hotel on the fringes of Exmoor National Park, this stylishly renovated restaurant occupies the shell of a 17th-century coach house – although its marble-topped bar, slate-grey tiled floors and cobalt-blue velvet upholstery create a stunning contemporary look. The kitchen is now headed up by Jean-Marc Zanetti, a protégé of Michael Caines who earned his stripes at Gidleigh Park and ABode Canterbury – so it’s no surprise that Devon produce (including beef from a nearby farm) features heavily on the menu. Typical dishes from the theatre kitchen might include the likes of truffled potato terrine with pickled mushrooms and rocket emulsion, smoked pigeon with marinated beetroot and hazelnuts or a plate of pork (belly, loin, spare ribs and hog’s pudding) with BBQ sauce, apple and baby gem.
