Goldsborough Hall is a luxury hotel and wedding venue just outside Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. The original thatched manor house was burnt down in the 16th century and replaced by the building that still stands by Sir Richard Hutton, with the village remaining tenanted to each subsequent owner for the next 350 years. The village and house became famous in the 1920s after Viscount Lascelles' marriage to Princess Mary, King Charles III’s great aunt, who lived there with her husband until 1952. After his death, the village was put up for sale, allowing residents to own their homes outright for the first time in 1,000 years.
The current owners have restored Goldsborough Hall to its former regal glory, resulting in the creation of one of North Yorkshire’s finest wedding venues. All weddings are exclusive hire for up to 250 guests, including use of 21 luxury bedrooms. The venue is licensed to conduct civil ceremonies but you can also choose to marry in the village church, which features several nods to Goldsborough’s former owners, including fine Norman architecture.
Each one of the available ceremony rooms brilliantly makes use of the house’s history and grandeur. Princess Mary’s drawing room is a highlight, its large windows allowing light to pour in and decorate the array of original features. Equally as bright is the Orangery, and there’s also the Sir Richard Hutton Room, which features a darker palette and an intricately carved stone fireplace. The Jacobean Library makes for a unique and storied venue for drinks or evening receptions, dark wooden panelling and ornately crafted ceiling decorations a reminder of Goldsborough’s 400 year heritage. Drinks receptions can also be hosted on the terrace, the best place to enjoy sweeping venues over the royally landscaped gardens and surrounding Yorkshire countryside.
Wedding breakfasts are planned alongside the hotel’s team of award-winning chefs, who are responsible for the 3AA rosette main restaurant that also features in the Michelin Guide. Expert wedding coordinators are on hand to plan the day from start to finish, resulting in a bespoke celebration truly matched to your individual desires.
