After a slight break in service, while Hackney council and owners Mikey Seddon and Thom Docker (late of The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town) sorted out the proper paperwork, this artfully dishevelled bijou boho bar is back in business. Occupying the site vacated by flash-in-the-pan Quiquiriqui (look for the scruffy, tricky-to-spot doorway behind the Golden Grill kebab joint), it entertains hirsute hipsters until midnight (later at weekends). Dive downstairs for good-natured fun in louche, low-lit, shebeen-like surroundings, complete with a tiny, cash-only bar dispensing boy beers from £3, negroni and rum old fashioneds (served in retro fizzy pop bottles), Del Maguey mezcal, Genever and tonic at £4.50, wine du jour and cheese plates to go with a banging soundtrack. ‘This ain’t your daddy’s liquor cabinet’, say the owners – they’re not wrong.
