The Stable Exeter is part of a chain originating in Bridport that now stretches from Birmingham to Devon via Cardiff. The USP is in matching quality pizza with West Country ciders. It’s a capacious venue, taking the site formerly occupied by The Rhythm Factory nightclub: ceilings are high, space ample and furnishings modern and relaxing. If you need further relaxing, the bar should do the trick with its impressive variety of ciders – we recommend the five-glass cider flight. The other speciality, sourdough pizzas, are super-thin (the crust almost cracker-like at the edges) with mountainous toppings ranging from the stupendously cheesy ‘Quaver’ to marinated lamb with mint and thyme-flecked sweet potato. Gluten-free pizzas are available and there’s also an array of small but filling pies, as well as salads and side dishes. You can even choose pizza for dessert, topped with blobs of dark chocolate and hazelnut spread: you won’t leave this fun and friendly joint feeling hungry.
