There’s room for 50 or so souls (at a pinch) in this darkened, atmospheric, Brixton booze-bunker. Inspired by the old taverns of Chicago (where there’s a sister establishment), Fox Bar is set within an arch, occupying what was once a seedy gay club, Substation. It’s the latest venture from Soho House and can be found next door to the group’s Chicken Shop concept in the basement of Piano House – a creative hub in a converted Victorian warehouse. Soho House’s global creative bar manager, Tom Kerr, has come up with a list of fine £8 cocktails including Banana Penicillin (a banana-infused Bacardi Oro with ginger, honey, lemon and peat). Other fixes worthy of investigation include Old Pal (a Rittenhouse rye whiskey Negroni), Southside Collins, and Boulevardier and Nitro (Espresso) Martini, both on tap. Chuck in craft beers and snacks (chicken bits), and we reckon Brixton’s baddest will be hooked.
