About

Mitchells & Butlers’ much-improved reimagining of The Old Barley Mow pub has produced a postmodern peppercorn-tone Hogarthian hostelry. Craft ales are to the fore, perhaps including punchy St Austell Proper Job IPA. Alternatively, take your pick from 20 wines by the glass on a 50-strong list ranging from cheerful Tempranillo (£15.50) to pukka Gevrey-Chambertin (£58). Lunchtime burgers and pub grub – pork, leek and Welsh rarebit sausages with spring onion mash; Devon crab cakes with baby kale; quinoa and carrot salad – are available in the evening too. You could also opt for the three-for-£14 bar-snack deal, choosing from the likes of chilli and lime-glazed squid; Scotch egg; pea, feta and mint arancini; and cubed braised brisket in buffalo sauce. The pub was built on the site of The Battle of Turnham Green; expect a battle royal for tables on the terrace when the sun shines and an outdoor barbecue sizzles.
