In the centre of the city and within a stone’s throw from the castle walls is this eatery dedicated to long, slow cooking of great local produce. Meats are carefully chosen and treated, marinated in special, secret herb and spice combinations, and cooked over the embers of locally coppiced wood. Current favourites on the menu are an Aberdeen Angus and bone marrow burger, Freedom and Respect chicken marinated for 48 hours in Honeydew beer and black pepper, and the many top sausages. Combine your choice with truffle mash or proper chips and finish with local Bluebell Farm ice cream. Wine comes by carafe, though there are beers and cocktails on tap as well, if you prefer. It’s all rather Robin Hood-like in its concept and simplicity, but we feel that portions and conditions are rather better than those enjoyed by Nottingham’s favourite outlaw.
