Better than expected
I arrived in a bit of a huff expecting to see a place packed with people, rows of tables with arrogant, rushed waiters and waitresses dutifully delivering orders timed to arrive before show time. Instead I saw an inviting space, wide open, clean and relaxed, ready to receive and serve guests. The decor was simple but elegant, friendly, attentive staff, but not overly so.
I was meeting a man here; with more than a hint of romance, we were going to the theatre and I chose the venue for lunch. It seemed easy enough as it was in the same building. Did I make enough of an effort? I could not have chosen better!
The main courses were tasty, the fish en papillote was delicately, appetisingly served, the gnocchi a theatrical display of colour and taste. I had indeed chosen wisely.
I highly recommend the Royal Court Theatre restaurant even if you're not going there to see any plays.
One comment, although the scallops I'd ordered as a starter were absolutely perfectly cooked, which is not as easy as some may think, why did the same dish served to the lady on the adjacent table contain scallops that were no less than twice the size of mine? I'm not normally fussy with portions but it was hard to ignore.
I'd go there again and I would mention the inequality. Apart from this stark difference between my food and hers, this was a wonderful experience and a favour to my yearning senses.
