Back in the Middle Ages, getting married in a castle was limited to Kings and Queens –perhaps Knights if they were lucky. Nowadays, things aren’t so elitist. Cheshire’s Peckforton Castle, a Grade I-listed venue dating back to Medieval times, is open to everyone. Formerly a family home, Peckforton is now a 47-bedroom hotel with five event spaces and a private chapel. The most popular setting for receptions is the Great Hall, a dramatic domed room with large fireplaces and capacity for 120 seated guests (it is also used for civil ceremonies). More striking still is the Hexagonal Room, which has lots of original features and space for 80 guests, while the cosy Drawing Room holds 165. The castle’s grounds make a beautiful backdrop for photographs and can be hired exclusively.
