National Gallery of Scotland
The National Galleries of Scotland is an event organiser’s treasure trove. The gallery sites – the Scottish National Gallery, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art – are dotted across Edinburgh. After a major refurbishment, the National Portrait Gallery opened its doors late last year with a fresher, lighter look, though the Great Hall, with its stained glass windows and astrological ceiling, is still the standout space. Catering and curator talks are further highlights. Behind the neo-classical exteriors, the two buildings of the National Gallery of Modern Art house a series of contemporary spaces as well as marquee sites on the surrounding lawns. At the National Gallery, home to Scotland’s greatest art collection, draws include a purpose-built lecture theatre, with seating for 200, and ample opportunity to entertain among the masterpieces.
