The Soho House Group’s Somerset outpost is a country house, but not as you know it. Chintz is replaced with understated elegance, the service is refreshingly relaxed and there are cool luxury touches everywhere – not least in The Playroom. This signature suite sits above The House Bar and, at 65sq m, mirrors its proportions perfectly. It’s also similarly well stocked. The ‘mini bar’ is here a full-size drinks cabinet, complete with half a dozen spirits and a baffling array of mixers (even Angostura bitters!), while the bathroom cupboard comes brimming with Cowshed goodies: large ones to use during your stay, a basket of minis to take away. Decorated in warm, neutral tones, the room is dominated by a giant bed, with a Sky+ telly in front and free-standing bath just behind. We also love that all light fixtures come with dimmer switches. When you come to turn them down, remember to lock the door: the sign outside does say ‘private’ but fellow guests may still come looking for a playroom...
