Teacher building, Glasgow
Originally commissioned by whisky magnate William Teacher back in the 1870s, IET Glasgow: Teacher Building has long been a local icon. Located in St Enoch Square, at the heart of the vibrant city centre, the listed building, with its impressive sandstone exterior, had a sympathetic makeover in 1995. It now serves as a modern, well-equipped conference centre, with 14 generous meeting suites spread over four floors. These include the tiered Laphroaig Theatre – one of the few such facilities in the city – decorated in clean whites and blues and equipped with top AV. This space can accommodate up to 125 delegates and works well for screenings, with breakout space in the Laphroaig Lounge opposite. The other rooms range from the King Street boardroom, which seats between four and 20, to the Ardmore Suite, which holds 200 for a reception and can be divided into three for smaller events.
