For houseparty-style entertaining, Tone Dale is an elegant Palladian-style villa & converted stable block set in four acres of landscaped grounds, with a once thriving but now silent woollen mill. Built by Thomas Fox in 1797, the house & gardens have been carefully restored so the 15 comfortable bedrooms & nine bathrooms all reflect different aspects of the history of the house & family. Huge windows fill the property with natural light. Guests can unwind in the cosy drawing room or games room amid many antiques & family portraits, while the more energetic can head to the Long Room for a game of table tennis or pool. There’s also a homely country-style kitchen, not that guests tend to spend time cooking – local chefs are on hand to prepare a choice of meals, from simple, hearty, self-service menus to more formal dinners, even a Thai banquet or drop-off meal if your party doesn’t want to be disturbed.
