Venue Review of Sopwell House
Just a 20-minute train ride from central London, this white-walled Georgian country house hotel was once the country home of Lord Mountbatten. Now decked in a bright, contemporary style, the property has 129 sumptuous bedrooms, including 16 mews suites. The 14 meeting rooms are well appointed, many with private terraces overlooking the gardens, making Sopwell House an excellent venue for small meetings as well as large conferences for up to 400 delegates. The self-contained conference suite has its own reception area. The Spa in the Country Club offers 12 treatment rooms and two fitness studios, as well as an art deco swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa bath. Unpretentious food from a seasonal British menu is served in the relaxed modern restaurant, while the superb wine collection is displayed on an impressive ‘wine wall’, from which diners can choose vintages from around the world.
