Reader Event Feature, Autumn 2004 - 'A Grand Affair' Information:
Square Meal treats readers to a mini break at Elite Hotel’s Eastbourne Property
The latest Square Meal outing, which took place on 10 September, saw a select group of event-organising readers and their partners joined Square Meal’s events team for a mini break at The Grand Hotel Eastbourne on 10 September 2004. With a beachfront location and lovely outdoor pool, it proved a perfect setting in which to soak up the last few rays of summer sun.
After checking into their sea view rooms, guests were welcomed with Champagne and canapes in the hotel’s palatial lobby. Glass in hand, they were then given a tour of the impressive meeting and reception space on offer at the property. Lara Gee of AstraZeneca was among those impressed. ‘It’s a beautiful venue and definitely one we’ll be considering for future events,’ she gushed. The hotel is famous for the superior food of its gourmet restaurant, Mirabelle, and the event kitchens lived up to expectations by preparing a lovely meal, which the group enjoyed with plentiful well-matched wine in an intimate, candlelit dining room.
Generous post-dinner servings of both port and calvados ensured a lively atmosphere and the party later moved through to the bar, where a live band played until the early hours. Athough she ‘enjoyed the night thoroughly’, Bea Sheikh from AstraZeneca says she’s ‘still recovering’ from our very own Graham Hill’s dance moves. Whatever could she mean..?
The following morning, heavy heads were cured with substantial English breakfasts, complimentary massage treatments and lounging by the pool, after which guests ‘struggled to tear themselves away from the micro-climate of Eastbourne’.
All in all, the trip was a great success. Regular reader event attendee Sally Anne Bennett of i2i Face to Face Marketing summed it up with these comments: ‘As is now something of a tradition with Square Meal, we had a wonderful time – both the setting and the company were just perfect.’
