Audleys Wood
Set in seven acres of lush Hampshire woodland, Audleys Wood, part of Hand Picked Hotels, was built in the 1880s as a private home for Sir George Bradshaw and was converted into a hotel in 1989. These days, the period grandeur of the mansion is combined with modern-day comfort and a prevailing unstuffiness. Its range of function space is diverse: larger events can take place in the Gallery Restaurant, set in an original Victorian conservatory and palm house, or the Garden Pavilion, an elegant marquee, which has space for 200 seated guests. The enthusiastic team here is well worth consulting for ideas: it can put an imaginative spin on anything from picnics to pared-down country-style weddings. Bedrooms, which have all recently been refurbished, range from ‘special occasion’ suites to superior doubles, all kitted out with up-to-date technology including Wi-Fi and DVD players.
