Northamptonshire venue Highgate House, owned by the award-winning Sundial Group, is a striking country mansion set in 26 acres of countryside. Originally a coaching inn and later the family home of the group’s owners, continual modernisation doesn’t detract from the venue’s 17th-century charm. Overnight accommodation ranges from traditional examples in the main house to sleeker style in the newer wing, while specialist, well-equipped meeting rooms, all with natural daylight, accommodate large residential conferences. Dining is just as flexible, with settings for up to 200, from the breezy Terrace Restaurant to a clutch of imposing spaces in the main house. The Baronial Hall, an atmospheric wood-panelled gallery, is our pick for a formal dinner.
