Set in Hampshire parkland two miles outside the ancient cathedral city of Winchester, Lainston House Hotel is a 17th-century William and Mary country house. With private dining and recently extended meeting facilities, as well as 63 acres of grounds (including terraces, tennis courts and jogging trails), the hotel lends itself particularly well to residential conferencing, exclusive hire or teambuilding retreats. Sandwiched between two rivers, it’s popular for corporate fishing trips too. For events, the 17th-century Dawley Barn, with its exposed beams, brickwork and high ceilings, is the largest and most impressive of the spaces, which include a number of smart boardrooms. Food is a particular forte here – the on-site kitchen garden, beehives and herd of Gloucester Old Spot pigs provide produce for the award-winning Avenue Restaurant. The hotel is an hour from London and offers carbon-neutral conferencing.
