Built in 1816, the 70-bedroom Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa (part of Hand Picked Hotels) is an interesting mix of architectural styles. Part Georgian manor, part French chateau, it also houses the modern West Wing, with 21 luxury bedrooms. More recently, a £10m project has seen a former stable block converted into a luxurious health club and spa, alongside the creation of eight conference suites. The largest is the naturally-lit Worleston, which seats 200 and has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Cheshire countryside. Many of the meeting rooms also have direct access to an outdoor terrace and all come with Wi-Fi and plasma screens. Dining in the grand old dining hall of the main house has a real sense of occasion and there are PDRs for groups of between 12 and 60 guests. Less formal options include afternoon tea in the Drawing Room or browsing the impressive wine list in the bar.
