Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall Information:

Royal Festival Hall was built in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain; London had been without a major concert hall following the destruction of the Queen's Hall by an incendiary bomb in 1941. After only an 18-month build & expenditure of £2m, Royal Festival Hall opened on 3 May 1951 with a ceremonial concert attended by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Royal Festival Hall is now the centrepiece of Southbank Centre, hosting events from orchestral & pop concerts to conferences, film screenings & graduation ceremonies. The main focus of the recent two year refurbishment, the Hall benefits from state of the art stage and rig, a large number of back of house areas & many of the original 1950s features.
