The In & Out (officially named Naval and Millitary Club) is one of London’s oldest private members’ clubs. Aimed at military folk but open to private events, it occupies a Grade II-listed building in St James’s Square and was founded in 1862 by a group of officers who wanted a home-from-home base in the centre of town. The venue’s wide range of spaces extends to a secluded courtyard that can hold up to 300, with or without a marquee. Inside, grand and noteworthy rooms include the Astor Room, with original 17th-century wood panelling and a private balcony, and the grand King Harald V Stateroom, which, with its classical decor, lends itself to banquets. Ampersand is the sole caterer.
