Venue Review of Bird of Smithfield

In 2012, Alan Bird quit The Ivy after two decades to set up on his own, and landed in this stylish Farringdon townhouse. The five-storey Bird of Smithfield promises something for just about everyone: a restaurant, a private dining room, a couple of bars and a roof terrace. The idea is that you start at the top – with Prosecco and canapés, perhaps, on the roof terrace – and then descend to the first-floor restaurant or the 30-seat PDR just above for some modern British dinner, and finally go subterranean for late-night cocktails. That basement bar, known as The Birdcage (see separate review), can host parties for up to 60 guests with space for a DJ or live band.
