Tsuru is a very reasonably priced, handy little sushi spot at Bankside, well suited to the lunchtime eat-and-run crowd. We were actually here on a Saturday night but that daytime style was perfect for us as all we wanted was a quick, cheap, healthy pitstop. We had edamame to start and they could have been a bit crunchier but were fine. My fiance had the vegetarian platter which had a good variety and number of sushi rolls with cucumber, carrot, asparagus etc and was enough to fill up all 6'6″ of him at only a tenner, so pretty good value when you consider you get a measly couple of rolls when you buy takeaway sushi from a supermarket for a fiver. I had a salmon and tuna platter: 4 delicious nigiri and 3 delicious sashimi pieces of salmon; the same number again of tuna which tasted of little except chilled fish and needed to be doused in soy to bring any joy. So, a mixed bag for my £15, but again it was enough to fill me up. It does feel a bit muted in here in the evening as they sling some canvas over half the menu, the canteen display shelf is empty, and the staff seem a bit half-hearted; it doesn't help that the whole area is a bit of a dead zone at night with few people around and little atmosphere. I imagine the other customers are people who wandered into the Tate Modern sometime in the morning, got carried away and have just arrived here for a very, very, late lunch. On the upside, you probably wouldn't want the plum wine or sake at lunchtime so coming here later does have one advantage. So yes, don't come here expecting a long, leisurely, mind-blowing, gastronomic, Sushisamba-style affair. But at £20 a head you shouldn't have anyway. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for a pick-me-up post artfest and if you do want something more evening-ish then try one of the other restaurants on this lovely little pedestrianised street.
