Never have I experienced such a disparity between food quality and service. The only redeeming factor of this place is the delicious food (and drink mixes), because the service was appallingly unprofessional and amateurish.
Bad stuff first:
Our visit was on a Friday night for the earlier table service (7pm). When I sat down I was offered water, and since my company had ordered sparkling I ordered a bottle of still, but immediately after I placed this order our server filled the gents' glasses on the table next to us with regular, chilled, pitchered, lemon-sliced water! I thought it odd not being given this option at all; perhaps just my sheer annoyance when sold huge bottles of water that are never finished.
To the ordering.. the menu on the first page clearly said “a humble bowl of rice” is served with dishes. When we ordered our food, we wanted to confirm this, but the server actually stated that this was “not the case” and so we had to order additional bowls of rice— Fix the menu please!
Then, and perhaps the worst part of the evening, as we were eating servers actually made us stop eating, put down our utensils and get up so they could move our table and chairs (& the gents next to us) closer to each other so as to conjure up more space for another table. It was immensely awkward and left us in disbelief.
What else.. oh yes the server quickly whisked away our plates without first asking if we were done. Regardless of whether the venue is Nando's or Nobu, a server must always ask before taking plates away!
Good stuff:
Scallops in olive oil starter was delicious as was my Strawberry Orange Jay drink. Sushi was divine.
So to sum up, service seriously needs to improve otherwise this place will fail, especially being so close to Roka, which is nicer, roomier and has better ambiance, not to mention the hundreds of other fantastic places in the West End.
