We booked a family ( all of whom are seasoned international travelers) table for 9 on Monday evening 23rd October. We were placed at a long table near the bar and happily not in the inside room!
The service was moderately slow but the food good and the presentation creative. The house wine good value for the money. It wasn't until I visited the mens' rest rooms that my first ‘good Pear Tree impressions’ were immediately shattered. Filthy with a wet and paper strewn floor- one of the three urinals out of order and masked with kitchen foil. The other two emitted bad odors. The toilet seat was dislocated, probably unusable. Naked plumbing pipes snaked from the old tiled walls. The small wash basin needed a clean. The electric blower hand drier made a noise like a jet engine starting up. Those dining in the inside room- which we happily were not- subjected to this noise. The rest room door opened outwards directly onto their tables!
I know that The Pear Tree was once a pub but since its rise to culinary fame, it is a pity that the owner Mr Dazzle and his partner Lulu have not sought fit to upgrade the restrooms to a dazzling standard.. After all isn't the perfect experience what they should be attempting to achieve?
Should they ever read this rating I would be glad to hear from them.
