I should say overall I was very disappointed & felt no desire to go there again.
We had booked for a lunch & having had our previous delightful experience of la Gavroche we were very much looking forward Roux at parliament sq.
At the beginning, they served some on house items that were very nice & made us more keen to have our starter & main.
We decided to go for the main menu rather than the set menu for lunch. So I ordered langoustine & scallop & my husband ordered mackerel. I was very much looking for my starter but was very surprised to see the very small portion of langoustine & scallop that was served with only one tiger prawn & 2 small scallops!. That portion seemed more appropriate for a tasting menu rather than a proper starter. I was hoping for its top price to get at least 2 proper langoustines rather than just one. But I was even more disappointed once I tried my scallops & found them extremely salty!! To the extent that the salty taste remained with me for the rest of the day.
When I told the gentleman who served us my disappointment with the portion size & excessive saltiness of the scallops he offered to bring a different starter but said the size was the standard size of a starter.
My disappointment with the main meal was even more. I had ordered roast partridge, but to my disappointment & amazement instead of getting a very tender piece, it turned up to be rather hard & bitter. I could not understand why it was bitter. It was also had difficulty cutting it, as the partridge breasts were rather hard & the knife was very blunt so it was a struggle to cut the pieces. At the end I did finish my plate because I was still hungry but felt very annoyed with the whole experience.
Once again when I told the gentleman who was serving us that I was very disappointed with my main meal, he said it is probably because “you are not used to these kind of food”!!! & when I said but we were very happy with the food at the la Gavroche he said but those are more simple food made for British taste & the food at their restaurant was different. I felt not only he was not trying to find out why I was disappointed, he felt he should in fact insult me & suggest I am not familiar with foods offered by top restaurant.
Overall I felt that though presentation of both starter & main meal was nice, the content was very disappointing & much to be desired.
