I am tempted not to write this review for Sauterelle as I would not like it to become too popular. However, I feel compelled as it is only fair to reciprocate to a friend who has made me so consistently happy. Although this is a new review, I should mention that I have been coming to Sauterelle practically from the day it opened. Despite the fact that there are several restaurants around Bank Station, for me none have even come close as to the overall experience. I have enjoyed each and every one of my many visits to Sauterelle over the years. I can think of no other restaurant that I have visited as frequently and about which I can state the same.
This is the place to which one should bring the visitor, the new City employee, a good friend from abroad or even someone with whom one is in love. The view of the atrium of the Royal Exchange, with its shops, cafe, and all its comings and goings gives the pleasure of the busyness of business but without its crush and its rush. If, like me, you have been in the City for over three decades it is also a good place from which to spot a passing friend. It's reassuring to be able to notice that so-and-so has aged without giving that so-and-so a similar opinion about yourself. At Sauterelle, you're in the hub.
The food is very good indeed but the best thing about Sauterelle, apart from the fun of the view, is the service. It is friendly and attentive and the staff all appear to like their jobs and genuinely to like you. Everything is beautifully presented and delicious. The bread is truly outstanding. Sauterelle is a place where ingredients are of the highest quality and where the chef also uses imagination. Very, very well done.
I wish this very pleasant restaurant continued success and, in equal measure, ensure it of my continued and very contented patronage. Bravo!!
