Racine is among my favourite London restaurants. True, I tend to go there on a day when I know that I can take it easy and so the restaurant is associated with a relaxing frame of mind. Even though I should allow that I go there with friends for a leisurely lunch (followed by a visit to the V & A), Racine would still pleasantly surprise my more rushed fellow man or woman. The maitre is charming and the waiters attentive. The prix fixe lunch must be among the best in London in terms of value for money. The chef is very seasonal and sensibly so as there is nothing more inappropriate as winter fare in London's current very hot days. In short, I am always surprised as to why Racine is not crowded at lunchtime. If I worked in South Kensington, I'd find it hard to stay away at lunch. The only reason why I have not given it its fifth star on atmosphere is because of the rather desultory feel one gets when in a nearly empty restaurant. People of South Kensington and Chelsea, awake! Go to Racine! Regardless, and even if you should not have the good sense to be regulars at this local gem, long may you harbour such a pleasant restaurant.
