We couldn't agree on much about this place.
Was the burger the best in town or the most over-rated? I loved mine (juicy, meaty, soft milk bread buns) and enjoyed the skinny fries although I was not so keen on the slaw which was over-peppered sliced cabbage. But others thought the American style food was not as good as the gourmet burgers you now get in many restaurants and specialist burger chains.
Was the “serve it on trays without cutlery” approach a paean to casual dining or a reflection that this is just not-so-fast fast food? Was it just a way to cut costs? At £17.50 each for the meal (soft drinks and small starters included) you don't want to think how much more you'd have to pay to get in on a plate. Or how much more they'd need to charge to get the one waitress some extra help.
Was the decor grungey American diner or underground Berlin bunker? Either way, it's definitely a nighthawk's place when the bar vibe would have worked better than at our lunchtime visit.
One thing we did agree: whilst we all enjoyed the experience, it really wouldn't have been worth the round the block queue which had developed by the time we left.
