Moules Frites is a dish often “lost in translation” in London dining. A fun option for a social dinner, there are too few places offering a good dish of the black and orange mussels. Loch Fyne did good ones for a while and there is the other Belgian chain, Belgo with its various outlets, but the quality is a bit hit-and-miss. More serious contenders often don't bother with a cluncky dish that probably does't attract much attention in more serious brasseries or restaurants. Other chains, such as “Aubaine” and “Cote” have the dish on-and-off, which again doesn't help the consistency of quality. Now this first branch of the Belgian-French chain “Léon de Bruxelles” has landed bang in the centre of theatre land at a pretty location on Cambridge Circus with views over the theatre opposite and buzzing Charing Cross road. If you know Léon from Paris, the concept is similar, but the finishing touches are slightly more formal for its London rendition. The performance is good and especially the fries are excellent. Overall, the service is friendly the atmosphere pleasant and the experience straightforwardly pleasant. On the negative side while lovely beers are on offer and the limited wines on the list are well chosen, a slighly wider selection might be an idea.
