I was most definitively confused when reading the last two reviews of this restaurant, specially as all other sites had very good reviews. I know both their restaurants well, but I had not been back for a while as I had been out of London.
I initially returned for dinner with some friends. The new decor in the marylebone restaurant is a great job, making it a more welcoming and envolvent site to be in.
As we all knew well the impressive selection of Iberico hams they have, we decided to try something new. The cecina, air cured beef was to die for. We then continued our advenutre through their new dishes, as their menu had changed quite a lot since my last visit. We tried the calcot style leeks and the green asparagus. Both quite interesting, but I must say that the tendency this restaurant has with fried dishes, makes choosing a necesarily careful matter.
We also had the sardines, the fabulous iberico hamburgers, the beetroot gazpacho (this is really not a sharing dish), the pork loin and the tortilla. They where all as fabulous as I remembered in this restaurants food to be. The tortilla could improove a little bit, although still very good.
The wine selection has also improoved, but worth noting is the service, which just as welcoming seems much more professional.
My second visit was for lunch on my own. It was then when I realised that their prices seem to have decreased a bit. I had the 10 pound menu with a incredible chickpea stew and a russian salad. As I was working I just had some interesting sparking water, Vichy Catalan. My bill was well under £20 for a very good, filling and healthy meal.
As good as I always remebered but more comfortable and welcoming. I was happy to be back in London, as I love this city, but today I am just a little bit happier.
