I can’t get enough of the Shard! Hutong is the high-end Chinese restaurant, a floor above Oblix. My tip would be have an aperitif in the Aqua Shard bar (huge glass atrium bar), soak in the views and then totter upstairs for some glorious Peking duck. The decor is very sultry and has a ‘sex and the city’ vibe going on. Quieter than Oblix, but nonetheless enchanting. They don’t have the ubiquitous crispy duck but they do have the Hong Kong favourite, Peking duck which is carved in front of you chefy style and satisfies any crispy duck desire. There is a whole list of other mouthwatering Chinese dishes to sample. The best were the piquant chilli prawns. A couple of dishes missed the mark, spare ribs were sickly sweet and the deboned lamb special was not so special. However, I do need to go back and sample some more, particularly due to Jay Rayner giving it his slightly unexpected stamp of approval. An added odd phenomenon is taking a toilet break at altitude. The end bill was £50/ head which was cheaper than expected for top-notch Chinese in what is presently the best building to eat in London.
