Having been talking to friends about steak the other night, they said I hadn’t tried steak until I had been to Quo Vadis or Hawksmoor. Well I have a new name to add to the list, Goodman Steak House of Mayfair.
I popped in there the other night to be assaulted by some of the best tasting steak I had ever tried. A big ask seen as I lived in New York for a good 30 years before travelling to London.
The restaurant is decked out just like a New York or Chicago style place, with plenty of space on table and between tables… I might be back for valentines… Red Meat, Red Wine and space to whisper sweet nothings. You get the drift.
Anyway I wanted steak and so did the wife. We were promptly given a display and explanation of the cuts by our superb Polish man Pawel. They were on that night serving two different Fillets and two Striploin (Sirloin) and three different Ribeyes. One on the bone. Origins were from either Australia , USA or British. The difference in flavours are apparently marked and The USA we were told was the Juicy Steak because of the excess marbling (fatty goodness). Australia was the leaner cut and the British the most flavorsome and aged on site. Apparently the only joint in London to do so. Great. The excitement buildeth and my wife went for the Goodman USA Ribeye 400g and me 800g Rib on the Bone British.
Both steaks were outrageously tasty, the British, beautifully cooked to medium rare with a char crust on the outside. Not so melt in the mouth but a flavour I have rarely experienced. And to think it was British beef. The US meat very tender and very juicy, my wife proclaiming it as the best she has ever had.
We assisted our steaks after navigating the wine list with a Clos Henri Pinot Noir. A superb Pinot from New Zealand. I have since ordered it online and now have it in the cellar for the next special occasion.
Dessert was equally impressive with a beautiful Crème Brulee and a Cheesecake alike. Very fresh and all made on site from scratch. Bonus points aplenty.
Overall a great Steak out. Really Great and I have heard since that they will be doing a Superbowl Night here. I am there , with or without the wife.
Dinner for two came in at 125 including excellent service and wine………
